Journey with me around the salons of Hertfordshire. Hair we go!

  1. Anita Cut is run by Anita’s sister, Annette. Anita has run off with a former delivery driver for a shampoo factory. She now lives in Benidorm, where she is a personal beautician to several suspiciously wealthy gentlemen and their wives.
  2. A Breath of Fresh Hair is actually a breath of permed hair and, consequently, rather sulphurous. What a gas! A Hint of Farts would have been more appropriate, but it would be a poor marketing decision.
  3. Hairitage recalls the Roaring Twenties and is part salon — part museum where one can view and even try out their collection of vintage hair-driers. (If you fancy a laugh, Google “12 Hilarious Photos of the Early Hair Dryers From Between the 1920s and 1940s”.)
  4. Shear Lock Combs is located on Baker Street. No, not the London one but Baker Street, South Mimms. Its owner changed her name by deed poll to Mrs Hudson and plans to start a private eye sideline where clients can have their husbands (or wives) investigated. Discretion assured.
  5. Julia’s Scissor is currently closed after Julia had an unfortunate accident whilst running with her Damascus shears. Thankfully, four fingers on a hand are more than adequate for most hairdressing tasks. Django Rheinhardt managed to…
